Whatcom County’s Long Term Recovery Group (Whatcom Strong) is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for Director of Client Support.

The Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group is working collaboratively to lead recovery and rebuild efforts. Made up of a broad representation of philanthropy organizations, nonprofits, businesses, government, faith community, civic groups and schools, they are working together to chart a path forward.




POSITION: Director of Client Support

FULL-TIME: Full time, maximum 40 hours a week
SHIFT: Various Shifts

REPORTS TO: WLTRG Board of Directors

COMPENSATION: Dependent on applicant experience and skillset, $30-$40/hour

DESCRIPTION:

Directs and coordinates the effective implementation of the mission, goals, and strategies of the WLTRG as established by the governing body to ensure disaster case management services are provided and that support is received through reconstruction, volunteers, fundraising and other committees organized to provide coordination and recovery services to individuals, families, and entities adversely impacted by disaster in Whatcom County. 


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the governing body in developing and implementing the operational policies, programs, and training events which meet identified needs before, during, and after a disaster.  Build and maintain community relationships and communication between organizations.  

  • Assumes responsibility as the chief development and coordinating officer of the organization. 

  • Attends all governing body meetings and serves as a staff resource.  

  • Develops a public relations program, builds and maintains connections with other nonprofits to improve referral sources and coordinate resources for clients.   

  • Attends and presents at the Washington VOAD meetings on behalf of the WLTRG

  • Reports on-going statistical and descriptive information regarding programs, operations and finances to the governing body.

  • Serves at the disposition of the governing body.

  • Works to build relationships with other coalitions.

  • Works with community groups, agencies and faith groups in developing inclusivity.


NONESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required by the WLTRG such as preparing for, attending and/or supporting special events and projects.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • COMMUNICATION: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written means. Ability to present a reassuring and positive and collaborative demeanor to individuals, their families, staff, supportive services personnel, and the general public. 

  • COMPOSURE: Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control during difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations.

  • DECISION MAKING: Ability to think analytically and problem solve. Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate and create solutions to work related problems.

  • FINANCIAL: Basic understanding of financial statements and restricted and unrestricted funds.  

  • NEGOTIATION: Ability to negotiate contracts and agreements.

  • SUPERVISION: Ability to train, evaluate and guide staff and independent contractors. Ability to delegate and ensure follow through. Ability to provide feedback in a respectful and constructive manner.

  • TECHNICAL: Knowledge of the disaster and emergency response methodology. 

  • CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE: Ability to be culturally responsive to geographic location, language of choice, age, gender, religious/spiritual preferences, race/ethnicity and cultural traditions and values.  Spanish speaking is desired.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Demonstrated empathy for people in disasters 

    • Effective public relations skills 

    • Excellent administrative skills with minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in leadership

    • Demonstrated flexibility in changing circumstances 

    • Ability to travel as necessary

    • Modest computer skills and able to navigate Google Documents

    • Problem solving experience 

    • Ability to work with people of all ages, ethnic and religious backgrounds 


  • MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDS:

    • Personal telephone, computer, navigation systems (google maps)


  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to communicate with individuals and their family members as well as staff and community/support services personnel to determine needs and actions to be taken.

    • Ability to input data into the computer, make calculations, complete paperwork, and produce reports.

    • Must be physically able to attend meetings and conduct home visits to include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing for long periods of time if required.



  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Work will occur both remotely (via phone & email) and in-person. For site visits and other in-person services, individuals will provide necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety precautions put into place by the state of Washington due to COVID-19. Under no circumstance will transportation services be provided in personal vehicles to clients.

    INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS:

    ​Required to provide proof of personal auto insurance on personal vehicle driven.
