for a Flood Recovery Update!

Learn more about ongoing flood recovery efforts in Whatcom County.

The November 2021 floods came on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbating community health/welfare trends that had already seen large impacts.

In their role as a connector of people, ideas and resources, the Community Foundation remains deeply involved with the human services organizations, business recovery leaders and local government partners dedicated to flood relief and recovery.

The November 2021 floods came on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbating community health/welfare trends that had already seen large impacts.

These include:

  • Increased housing costs & reduced housing vacancies

  • Stress on our local childcare systems and structures

  • Higher cost of living, impacting our lower-income neighbors the most

  • Growing youth mental health challenges

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, six months into the recovery, we are gathering some community leaders to share firsthand what they have seen and learned, what is happening currently with our neighbors still recovering from the flooding and its aftermath, and what we, as a community, can do to be better prepared for the next disaster.

Panelists Include:
– Liz Baxter, CEO | North Sound ACH
– Lacey De Lange, Disaster Case Manager Lead | Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group
– Sylvia Mendoza, Family Liaison | Nooksack Valley School District
– Will Rice, CCSNW Agency Director | Catholic Community Services of Western Washington
– Mauri Ingram, CEO | Whatcom Community Foundation (Moderator)
